Five teenagers were taken into custody following a disturbing incident in the Bronx where a stray bullet pierced through an apartment ceiling, striking a woman in the forehead while she was asleep. The incident took place on Purdy Avenue near Metropolitan Avenue in Parkchester.

The bullet reportedly entered the first-floor apartment from the floor above within a residential building, according to the police. The victim, a 55-year-old woman, sustained a graze wound to her head while she was in bed. She was unaware of being shot until she woke up to discover her forehead bleeding profusely, as per her family’s account to the New York Daily News. The woman was promptly taken to Jacobi Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear at this time. However, authorities have identified three of the arrested suspects as 19-year-olds Dezmon Frazer, Kiron Valerio, and Tyquon Williams, all residents of the Bronx. The identities of the remaining two suspects, both 17-year-old males, have been withheld due to their status as minors.

All five individuals have been charged with fault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. The decision on whether the minors will be prosecuted as adults is yet to be determined.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless behavior with firearms and the importance of responsible gun ownership. It also highlights the need for increased vigilance and community efforts to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
