A Chicago Man Charged with Murdering UPS Driver Claims He Was Following Orders

A disturbing case has emerged in Bronzeville, Chicago, where a five-time felon named Eugene Rhoiney stands accused of fatally shooting UPS driver Wyatt Turner outside Turner’s apartment building. Prosecutors revealed that Rhoiney confessed to police that he carried out the shooting on orders from someone else.

Rhoiney, known for his extensive criminal record, including a federal firearms conviction, allegedly waited for Turner to return home from work on August 22, 2023. Armed with a handgun, Rhoiney approached Turner on the front steps of his residence on East 44th Street and fired two shots, leading to Turner’s tragic death.

Surveillance footage captured a stolen vehicle dropping off Rhoiney near Turner’s residence, where he waited for his victim to arrive. As Turner approached the building after parking his car, Rhoiney followed closely behind. When Turner reached the front steps, Rhoiney pulled out his gun and shot Turner in the back of the head before fleeing the scene.

Despite the brazen attack, Rhoiney was identified through forensic evidence left behind at the crime scene. A cigarette butt discarded by Rhoiney in the getaway vehicle matched his DNA profile, linking him to the murder. Investigators also found the abandoned stolen vehicle nearby, providing further evidence of Rhoiney’s involvement.

Shocking details emerged as prosecutors revealed that Turner and Rhoiney had no apparent connection, raising questions about the motive behind the targeted killing. Rhoiney’s troubled past, marked by multiple firearms and narcotics convictions spanning decades, adds a chilling dimension to the case.

During a court hearing, Judge Shauna Boliker deemed Rhoiney a significant threat to public safety and ordered his detention. As the investigation unfolds, the community awaits answers about the circumstances that led to such a senseless act of violence.
