A Chicago Man Receives Seven-Year Sentence for Series of Violent Robberies

A Chicago resident has been sentenced to seven years behind bars following a violent spree of robberies and attempted carjackings that took place in the city’s Loop neighborhood in early December 2023.

According to prosecutors, 27-year-old Terry Ivory physically assaulted two elderly individuals, attempting to steal their vehicles, and even successfully robbed one victim of her purse. Ivory also pilfered an iPhone from a woman aboard a CTA train just a day before his criminal actions in the Loop.

Court documents reveal that Ivory entered a guilty plea to charges of attempted vehicular hijacking, robbery, and robbery targeting a victim over the age of 60. Judge Timothy Joyce presided over the case, imposing three concurrent seven-year sentences on Ivory.

Details of the attacks show that on December 2, 2023, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Ivory confronted a 61-year-old man who was seated in his Toyota Prius in a parking garage located in the 800 block of South Wabash Avenue. He attempted to seize the victim’s phone, but the man fought back. In response, Ivory retaliated with multiple punches before trying to commandeer the vehicle himself. However, he was unable to escape since the victim retained possession of the keys.
