An unfortunate incident occurred on the South Side of Chicago late Tuesday night, resulting in an 8-year-old girl being wounded in a shooting that stemmed from a road rage dispute. According to the Chicago Police Department, the girl was inside a Nissan Rogue with her family when they engaged in a verbal altercation with the occupants of a white SUV in the 3000 block of South State around 9:47 p.m.
The situation escalated when a man in the white SUV threatened to shoot at the family’s vehicle and proceeded to fire two gunshots, one of which struck the girl in the left thigh. The suspect quickly fled the scene, leaving the family in shock and the young girl in need of medical attention.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene promptly, providing initial treatment to the injured girl before transporting her to Comer Children’s Hospital. Thankfully, she was listed in fair condition upon arrival at the hospital.
Police were able to recover two shell casings from the scene and are currently on the lookout for the suspect. Initially described as a Black male, approximately 5’7″ or 5’8″ tall, with a medium build, and wearing all black clothing, the authorities are working diligently to apprehend the individual responsible for this senseless act of violence.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of road rage and the impact it can have on innocent individuals. It is crucial for all members of the community to exercise caution and restraint in such situations to prevent further harm.
