On Thursday, President Trump issued an enthusiastic statement in response to the indictment of James Comey, the former FBI Director.

“JUSTICE IN AMERICA!” Trump declared in a post on Truth Social. “James Comey, the former corrupt Head of the FBI, is one of the most disgraceful individuals ever associated with this Country.”

“He has been indicted today by a Grand Jury on two counts of felony for numerous illegal and wrongful actions.”

Trump took to Truth Social to express his glee over Comey’s indictment, labeling him as “one of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to.”

Comey faces indictment for making false statements and obstruction of justice, in relation to the testimony he provided to the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 30, 2020.

During that hearing, Comey responded to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) by asserting he did not permit leaks to the media regarding the FBI’s investigations into alleged collusion between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian officials, and also concerning former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email server issues.

“That assertion was false, as JAMES B. COMEY JR. was well aware, because he did indeed authorize PERSON 3 to act as an anonymous source in press reports regarding an FBI probe about PERSON 1,” stated the two-page indictment.

At the age of 64, Comey is facing up to five years in prison if he is found guilty on both counts.

Reports indicate that he is scheduled to surrender on Friday morning, as per CNN.

“What those individuals did was utterly unacceptable and deeply corrupt,” Trump remarked regarding the Russia collusion investigation in an interview with Fox News Digital.

“He is a highly corrupt individual; he represented a significant deviation from the values this country holds dear,” the President stated regarding the charged former FBI chief.

“He created an adverse influence over the entire nation, and the Russia, Russia, Russia misinformation campaign made things more challenging than they should have been,” Trump went on. “It could have instigated wars.”

At the same time, Comey maintains his assertion of innocence.

“My family and I have recognized for years that there are consequences to standing up against Donald Trump, but we simply cannot envision living any other way,” Comey stated in a video shared on Substack shortly after his indictment. “We’re not going to live submissively, and you shouldn’t either.”

“I am deeply saddened for the Department of Justice, but I possess immense trust in the federal judicial system, and I am innocent, so let’s proceed to trial and maintain our faith,” he added.

Comey — who held the role of FBI director from 2013 until Trump dismissed him in 2017 — has long been loathed by Trump owing to the Russia collusion investigation, which the president has persistently condemned as a “hoax” and a “witch hunt.”

“He has been detrimental to our Country for such a prolonged duration and is now beginning to face accountability for his misdeeds against our Nation,” Trump asserted in his post.

He concluded with, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

When asked by Fox News Digital about whether former CIA Director John Brennan, who is under scrutiny for allegedly making false statements to Congress concerning the Trump-Russia investigation, should also face charges, Trump replied: “We’ll have to wait and see.”

“It rests with the Justice Department, but I can tell you, it’s a group that has been profoundly disappointing,” Trump added. “This makes Watergate seem trivial in comparison.”

“They attempted to undermine our country.”
