In the latest twist of political theater, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt has suggested that the recent escalator and teleprompter snafus involving President Donald Trump might not be mere coincidences, but products of intentional sabotage.

The United Nations chimed in on September 23, stating that the escalator dilemma faced by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump upon their arrival at the U.N. General Assembly was likely set off by a safety trigger. The incident unfolded at the U.N. headquarters in New York City just before Trump’s highly anticipated address.

The escalator stalled upon the couple’s entrance, compelling them and their entourage to ascend the stairs manually—a scene reminiscent of a slapstick comedy rather than a presidential arrival.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the U.N. Secretary General, elaborated in a statement that the mishap was likely triggered accidentally by the delegation’s videographer. This individual reportedly traveled backwards up the escalator to capture the grandeur of Trump’s entry.

“Investigations indicated that the escalator stalled due to a built-in safety mechanism being triggered at its top,” Dujarric explained, revealing that the system is designed to prevent individuals or items from being trapped in its mechanics. It seems that even escalators have safety nets for high-stakes political figures.

Remarkably, the escalator was back to normal operation shortly after the U.S. delegation had made it to the second floor. Yet it was not just the escalator that decided to play tricks that day; Trump also reported to the assembly that his teleprompter had succumbed to similar malfunctions alongside the escalator, throwing a curveball at his prepared remarks.

“I don’t mind delivering this speech without a teleprompter, because it’s not working,” Trump humorously noted as he took the stage, showcasing a rare moment of humor amid potentially chaotic circumstances. “I feel very happy to be up here with you all, speaking more from the heart.”

In a follow-up social media post, Trump expressed his gratitude for addressing the U.N., despite the technical hiccups. “If anything, these incidents probably made the speech more captivating than it would have been otherwise,” he mused.

In a bold move, Leavitt has called on the U.N. to investigate the incidents. Through a social media post, she insisted that any U.N. employee who might have deliberately interfered with the escalator while Trump and Melania were boarding should face immediate consequences.

“When everything is taken into account, it hardly seems like a coincidence to me,” Leavitt expressed. “If we determine that any U.N. staffers were intentionally trying to trip up—the president and first lady, literally—we expect accountability.”

The Epoch Times reached out for comments from the U.N. but had not received a response at the time of publication.
