Gaumont USA Expands Slate with New Titles Featuring Top Stars

Gaumont USA, the Los Angeles branch of the renowned French studio, is set to develop a number of new titles, including exciting projects in collaboration with Kate del Castillo’s Cholowood, as well as a buddy comedy led by Karla Souza, known for her role in “How to Get Away With Murder.”

Thrilling Collaborations

Among these projects, del Castillo and Cholowood are working on “Point Blank,” an action thriller scripted by Alexandro Aldrete, with direction by Salvador Espinosa, known for titles such as “Harina” and “Club of Crows.”

A second project, focusing on the Mexican audience, is a buddy comedy titled “La Chef.” Directed by Noé Santillán-López, who gained recognition through “Gift Table,” this film is written by U.S. actress and writer Emma Ramos, famous for “In the Summers” and “¡Dora!”

Christian Gabela, Gaumont USA’s Senior Vice President of Creative Affairs, confirmed that del Castillo will take a leading role in both films while also co-producing them.

More Projects Targeting Mexican and Spanish Markets

In addition to the Cholowood projects, Karla Souza will headline “Las Wannabes,” a buddy comedy scripted by María Hinojos, recognized for “Mirreyes Contra Godínez” and “Cindy la Regia.” Furthermore, Gaumont USA is collaborating with a streaming platform to create “Rumba Therapy,” a feel-good comedy.

Gaumont USA is also involved in other exciting ventures, including co-producing “Me Engana Que Eu Gosto,” which is adapted from Patricia Corso’s work and will be directed by Pedro Amorim. Another project underway is “D_LUX,” in partnership with Brazil’s Globoplay, focusing on the dramatic arc of Eliana Tranchesi, a renowned fashion figure.

Expanding Horizons in True-Crime and Comedy

Gaumont USA is also developing a true-crime series in collaboration with HBO Max, along with a buddy comedy titled “Brats,” directed by Araceli Álvarez de Sotomayor and Javier Aguado, aimed at the Spanish market. They are also working with Argentinian filmmakers Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat on an adaptation of Haydu Kowski’s novel, “Instructions on How to Rob a Supermarket.”

Christian Gabela emphasized the importance of the Spanish market, noting, “Spain is very attractive due to its volume and investment opportunities” as companies like Netflix expand their presence in the region.

The Legacy of ‘Narcos’

The announcement of new titles comes as Gaumont celebrates its 130th anniversary, coinciding with the 10-year milestone of “Narcos,” their pioneering production for the streaming era. The series showcased the potential of premium, bilingual content gaining worldwide recognition and marking a significant shift in modern television.

Upcoming works demonstrate the substantial progress and diversification of Gaumont USA, including “Futuro Desierto,” a near-future psychological thriller set to premiere on Netflix and starring industry talents like Chema Yazpik and Karla Souza.
