In an exciting development for fans of young adult dramas, Netflix has announced the upcoming series titled “Poser.” This new project comes from the talented Lauren Iungerich, widely recognized for her work as the creator and showrunner of the beloved MTV dramedy “Awkward.”
“Poser” is set to be an eight-episode drama, each running approximately one hour. The series promises to delve into the complexities of toxic female friendships presented as a gripping emotional thriller. The narrative revolves around two former best friends who have become estranged over the years. The premise hints at a captivating tension: “When one of them is offered the life she has always desired, trying to unravel the mystery behind their fallout, she becomes ensnared in a psychological web of revenge, betrayal, and devastating heartache—ultimately transforming their lives, as well as those of the people around them, forever.”
Iungerich not only takes the reins as creator and showrunner of “Poser,” but she also serves as an executive producer alongside Jamie Dooner under the umbrella of their production company, Crazy Cat Lady Entertainment. This series is part of Iungerich’s overall deal with Netflix, furthering her impressive portfolio. Following the success of “Awkward,” she co-created the critically acclaimed Netflix teen dramedy “On My Block,” working alongside Eddie Gonzales and Jeremy Haft. The show garnered a devoted fanbase over four seasons and featured talents such as Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, Jessica Marie Garcia, Julio Macias, and Peggy Blow. Additionally, “On My Block” inspired a spin-off series, “Freeridge,” based in the same fictional Los Angeles neighborhood. Iungerich’s creative prowess extends to other ventures, including the supernatural comedy series “Boo, Bitch,” which she co-created for Netflix with collaborators Tim Schauer, Kuba Soltysiak, and Erin Ehrlich.
“Poser” will add to Netflix’s growing lineup of young adult programming, which features hits like Jenna Ortega’s “Wednesday,” the cultural phenomenon “Stranger Things,” and the ever-popular teen drama “Outer Banks.”
Iungerich is represented by 3 Arts and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
