Fran Drescher's Nightmare: 'The Nanny' Icon Shares Heartbreaking Update About Malibu Mansion Nine Months After Deadly LA Wildfires — 'It Was Such a Paradise and I Miss It'

Fran Drescher has shared an update regarding her Malibu residence almost nine months after evacuating due to the catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles.

The celebrated actress, known for her role in The Nanny, has been residing in New York City since January, when several wildfires erupted across the Los Angeles region, displacing thousands and destroying entire neighborhoods.

Drescher made headlines recently during her trip back to Los Angeles to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 30, coinciding with her birthday.

Reflecting on her experiences post-evacuation, she mentioned, “I had to evacuate from my Malibu house on January 7th. Thank God, the house is still standing; however, the area is unlivable.”

The actress elaborated on the unforeseen health risks linked to such environmental disasters. She emphasized that these experiences have taught her about the significant relationship between environmental factors and health outcomes.

“I’m quite aware of the dangers now,” she said. “Two friends of mine are battling cancer after 24 years since 9/11, and doctors are predicting similar issues from the Palisades fire exposure.”

Drescher, a survivor of uterine cancer, mentioned, “I’m not in a hurry to return to my former home, even though I cherished it dearly.”

While she currently resides in New York, she expressed gratitude for having a secure place to call home after fleeing from the fires, describing her Central Park apartment as a sanctuary during challenging times. “It’s been my healing space,” she stated.

She continued to reflect on her life, labeling her NYC residence as her main base, with LA now serving as a secondary home.

In the past few years, Drescher has faced numerous transformative experiences, including her evacuation during the Palisades fire. She became the president of SAG-AFTRA amidst a global pandemic in September 2021, navigating complicated challenges, including significant negotiations leading up to the 2023 WGA strike that spanned from July to November.

Tragically, she lost her father in March 2024 and opted not to seek a third term as the union president in 2025, citing exhausting years of leadership. Reflecting on her journey, she stated, “Life teaches us to let go, a hard lesson that consistently resurfaces.”
