In an interview with The Times, Brandon Flowers shared insights into his introspective journey, reflecting on the differing lifestyles between himself and his father. Despite his father leading a modest life without substantial financial success, Flowers noted his father’s contentment.
This realization has prompted Flowers to evaluate his own definition of success and question the value of continuing his touring career, considering the emotional and physical demands it imposes.
Amidst the speculation regarding his career path, Flowers acknowledged the irreplaceable moments that performing offers. He draws motivation from Mick Jagger, the 83-year-old Rolling Stones frontman, whose enduring career remains a source of inspiration for him.
Flowers remarked, “My dad frequents yard sales, buying frames to paint at home. He’s never had money, yet he’s happier than I am.”
He continued, “I’m currently grappling with whether I want to keep doing this. What does it mean? Why am I doing it? Every time I finish a tour, I inevitably fall ill.”
Reflecting on Jagger’s example, Flowers said, “I think of Mick Jagger and ask myself, ‘What drives him to keep performing?’ I believe it’s the powerful moments during concerts. How could I not want to experience that?”
