When you see a headline starting with “Florida Man,” brace yourself for the unexpected. This week’s episode involves a peculiar tale of culinary choice gone awry.

A 61-year-old resident of Hudson, Florida, named Craig Vogt, faces animal cruelty charges after allegedly slaying and consuming two pet peacocks. The bizarre twist? His actions were purportedly motivated by a spat with a neighbor who was feeding the birds.

Vogt confessed to law enforcement that his decision to kill his beloved pets stemmed from this neighborly annoyance, resulting in a rather twisted form of retaliation.

According to a report by The Guardian:

A man on Florida’s Gulf Coast has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities said he killed, cooked, and ate two of his pet peacocks to retaliate against a neighbor.

Currently, Vogt is being held on a substantial bond of $25,000.

This incident occurs amid a noticeable rise in the consumption of exotic meats across the United States. Just a month prior, reports emerged that U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 52 pounds of monkey meat from a traveler at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

This particular traveler from Gabon had attracted suspicion due to his dubious claim of carrying antelope meat, which was later revealed to be a different beast altogether. Fortunately for him, no jail time was served—only a $300 fine.
