Nicole Kidman Praised Late Mom Janelle for Teaching Her How to Build 'a Long-lasting, Successful Relationship'… Just Four Months Before 'Split' From Keith Urban

In a reflective op-ed published just four months ago, Nicole Kidman expressed her feelings of gratitude toward her lasting marriage with Keith Urban. She praised the influence of her late mother, Janelle, for teaching her the fundamentals of fostering a “long-lasting, successful relationship,” as reported by RadarOnline.com.

However, her heartfelt words have taken on a somber tone with the recent announcement of the couple’s separation after nearly two decades together.

In the emotional piece published in May, shortly after Janelle’s passing, Kidman reflected on the lessons learned from her parents’ marriage, which she described as a “beautiful” example for her relationship with the country music icon.

Kidman described her father, the late Antony Kidman, as a devoted husband who provided a shining example of love and devotion, noting, “He was so loving to her and devoted to her and was such a good man. They married very young and made it to 50 years, which is a feat.”

Kidman further attributed the skills necessary for a successful marriage to her parents’ teachings, stating, “I’m very, very fortunate to have created this coming-up-to-20-year marriage. That’s very much because of my parents.”

News of their marital split came as a shock to fans on September 29, nearly a year following the death of her mother.

The Eyes Wide Shut star announced her mother’s passing in a heartfelt statement delivered by Halina Reijn, director of her film Babygirl, during her acceptance of the Best Actress award at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.

In her statement regarding her mother’s death, Kidman expressed, “Today, I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has just passed. I am in shock, and I have to go to my family.” She also added, “This award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me, and she made me. I’m beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina.”

Fast forward twelve months, and Kidman finds herself heartbroken once again with the announcement of her separation from Urban.

Reports suggest that the couple has been living apart for some time. It’s believed that Kidman made efforts to preserve her marriage, but Urban ultimately left their Nashville home.

Recently, Kidman raised eyebrows when she filed for a residency permit in Portugal, notably leaving Urban’s name off the documentation. This application came as she began renting a large London mansion solo for her work in the UK.

The concern regarding the application has since been dismissed as a mere formality, since Urban was touring in North America when the appointment was required to be attended in person.
