Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban commemorated their love with a heartfelt wedding in Australia nearly two decades ago, long before they announced their separation.
Us Weekly reported on Monday, September 29, that Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, have parted ways after 19 years of marriage. The couple initially crossed paths in 2005, shortly after Kidman’s divorce from Tom Cruise. One year into their romance, the pair tied the knot at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in Sydney, surrounded by loved ones.
“I vividly recall driving in Sydney, accompanied by my father—who, alas, is no longer with us—on our way to the chapel,” Kidman reminisced in a 2004 interview with People. “The streets were filled with people celebrating our occasion.”
With windows rolled down in their vintage white Rolls-Royce, Kidman and her father Antony greeted the enthusiastic locals on their way to the intimate, candlelit ceremony.
“That day was incredibly emotional for me,” she reflected, “and certainly one for the ages.”
Following their wedding vows, the couple welcomed their daughter, Sunday Rose, in 2008, and two years later, Faith joined them, born via surrogate. Kidman also has two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, from her previous marriage to Cruise.
Kidman consistently expressed admiration for her partnership with Urban, stating, “He is the most extraordinary partner in my life. I consider myself incredibly fortunate.” In a 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight, she highlighted the positive influence of the good men in her life, including Urban.
In a 2022 interview with CBS Mornings, Kidman called meeting Urban “later in life” the best twist of fate for her, expressing, “We complement each other wonderfully. I feel incredibly blessed to have crossed paths with him.”
Kidman was candid about the effort that goes into maintaining a successful marriage. “We’re constantly navigating challenges, but it’s rooted in love, allowing for a significant exchange of give-and-take,” she shared in Harper’s Bazaar September 2021 issue. “We both aspire for the best for each other, and co-parenting is something we truly enjoy.”
Reflecting on her tumultuous split from Cruise in 2001, Kidman recounted the impact it had on her subsequent relationships.
“When I was younger, I found sharing my life publicly easier, but it seems I’ve become a bit more guarded as time ticks by,” she noted. “Yet, I still prefer to engage with the world openly, filled with warmth, despite past hurts. Keith often asks me, ‘How’s your heart?’ and I’ve always said, ‘Open.’”
