In a striking message on Tuesday, President Trump warned that significant layoffs could occur if Congressional Democrats follow through with their plan to block a stopgap funding measure essential for avoiding a government shutdown until November 21.
According to The Gateway Pundit, the government is set to enter a shutdown as Democrats demand a staggering $1.5 trillion in spending for initiatives including healthcare for undocumented immigrants and gender-affirming surgery for minors.
Trump countered the Democratic demands by asserting that he would implement âirreversibleâ measures to forward his administrationâs agenda if they fail to negotiate a funding agreement by midnight.
CBS reporter Weijia Jiang pressed the President on the necessity of federal layoffs in this scenario, to which Trump responded that while he desires to avoid a shutdown, he is prepared to make the most of the circumstances.
âShutdowns can prompt us to eliminate many undesired elementsâspecifically, those that align with Democrat interests,â Trump noted. He further emphasized his conviction that these actions are for the greater good, citing issues such as border security and gender identity policies in sports.
WATCH:
Jiang: With a looming government shutdown, you mentioned potential layoffs. If the federal workforce is already shrinking, why tie further cuts to a shutdown?
Trump: When the Democrats choose to shut things down, layoffs become an inevitable consequence. Weâll undoubtedly see significant reductions impacting many. They insist on funding for illegal immigration and universal healthcareâwhich I cannot accept. This would burden every American.
As we witness advancements in AI and our growth in manufacturingâ$17 trillion in incoming revenue this yearâthis contrasts starkly with the Biden administration, which garnered less than a trillion over four years. Weâre breaking records in just eight months. While no one favors a shutdown, it could clear away a range of unwanted initiatives. They demand open borders, support for transgender policies in schools, and other issues that contradict the views of a majority of Americans. But despite their losses, it appears they still havenât learned their lesson. As such, Iâm compelled to make these decisions for the good of the country.
