Secuoya Studios Highlights Global Expansion, Presents Partners From Iceland, France, U.K., U.S. at Iberseries & Platino Industria

At the bustling 5th Iberseries & Platino Industria event in Madrid, Secuoya Studios showcased its latest collaborations with international partners, outlining its ambitious plans for global expansion and highlighting the benefits of its innovative pod business model.

Brendan Fitzgerald, CEO of Secuoya, led a dynamic panel featuring Chiara Cardoso from BlackBox Multimedia (UK), Sydney Gallonde of Make it Happen Studios (France), Jónas Margeir from Act4 (Iceland), and Chris Moukarbel of Permanent Wave Productions (USA).

Each partner shared insights on their collaborations with Secuoya and expressed optimism about the capacity of this model to significantly enhance local projects in the international marketplace.

“Iceland has a population of just 390,000, which is quite small. We’re all connected, and, yes, we are friends on Instagram,” joked Jónas Margeir from Act4. He continued, “This era is heralded as the age of co-production, where cross-border collaboration is essential, but that has always been our reality. Therefore, when Secuoya approached us, it was a delightful partnership because we hold shared values of quality content.”

For Chiara Cardoso, partnering with Secuoya has been a strategic move. “Finding the right co-production partners is essential. Collaborating with Secuoya offered a unique opportunity that includes not only creative collaboration but also significant financing and production support. This partnership feels like a dream come true,” she enthused.

Cardoso further detailed that two forthcoming projects are expected to launch in 2025, poised to captivate and connect with global audiences. “The team at Secuoya thoroughly comprehends our needs, providing us with contracts, talent, and scripts tailored for maximum impact,” she noted, highlighting the studio’s capability to recreate British settings in northern Spain or the Canary Islands.

Chris Moukarbel from Permanent Wave Productions addressed the evolving landscape of storytelling, emphasizing the increasing crossover between documentaries and fictional narratives: “Documentaries today boast production values that rival those of fiction films. Aligning with a partner like Secuoya, known for its credibility, is tremendously advantageous.” He added, “In this era, everyone is documenting their lives online, establishing the internet as the storytelling epicenter. Unlike 20 or 30 years ago, where documentaries were the sole means to access individuals’ lives, today’s documentaries are adopting cinematic qualities to elevate their narratives.”

When asked what draws them to a project, Cardoso emphasized the importance of a story’s emotional core, while Margeir pointed to the power of simple yet impactful storytelling exemplified by the multi-Emmy-winning series “Adolescence” on Netflix, which surprised him with its unique narrative style.

“I want you to be ready to die for your project. That’s my only requirement,” stated Sydney Gallonde of Make it Happen Studios, who expressed that partnering with Secuoya has taken his production capabilities to the next level. “Now, I’m part of a larger business that provides talent, enabling faster progress on more ambitious projects,” he said. Gallonde, experienced in both French and international adaptations, underscored that the roots of a project always determine its strength.

In other early news from Iberseries & Platino Industria, Munich-based Beta Film announced it would oversee the international distribution of Secuoya Studios’ forthcoming projects “Under a Volcano” and “Road to Arcadia,” both starring William Levy and part of a triad deal between Secuoya, William Levy Entertainment, and ViX, TelevisaUnivision’s streaming platform.
