Radiating joy through an explosion of colors, patterns, and imaginative forms, the collaborative works of Craig & Karl captivate audiences worldwide. While Craig resides in New York City and Karl calls London home, their dynamic partnership transcends geographical boundaries, creating multimedia art installations that invigorate urban landscapes and provoke a sense of playfulness.

As a highlight of the highly anticipated 2025 Brisbane Festival, Craig & Karl showcased two massive inflatable structures on the city’s iconic bridges. These installations conceptually embrace the arch as a symbol of transition and movement, inviting curiosity and exploration. Alongside these installations, a variety of illustrations, interactive sculptures, and the whimsical inflatable “Mateys”—a collection of endearing characters featuring expressive faces—were scattered across streets and buildings, fostering joyful interactions within the broader exhibition titled Rear Vision.

Together, these installations are collectively named Walk This Way, aiming to encourage the people of Brisbane to view their environment through a fresh perspective. The playful and adaptable characters resonate with audiences of all ages. A statement from the festival explains: “The Mateys serve as companions that help foster community and shared experiences, welcoming us into different corners of the city.”

Craig & Karl are celebrated for their vibrant participatory projects that span a range of creative expressions including mini-golf courses, playgrounds, and vibrant murals. Their artistic journey began 30 years ago at Griffith University in Brisbane, where the duo first met. Over the years, their collaborative efforts have led to innovative partnerships with renowned global brands and prestigious publications such as Adidas, Nike, Apple, Chanel, The New Yorker, Variety, and many more.

Although the breathtaking bridge installations concluded at the end of September, visitors can still immerse themselves in the Public Art Trail throughout October 20 to discover Craig & Karl’s sculptures and installations in unanticipated locales. Additionally, art enthusiasts should not miss the exhibition Double Vision at the Griffith University Art Museum, running until January 7.
