The “Scrubs” revival on ABC is adding a wave of both new talent and familiar faces to its cast.
According to Variety, the beloved sitcom’s fresh take has welcomed nine recurring guest stars. Among them are Vanessa Bayer (known for “Saturday Night Live,” “I Love That For You,” and “Freakier Friday”) and Joel Kim Booster (famous for “Fire Island,” “K-Pop: Demon Hunters,” and “Loot”).
Bayer is set to portray Sibby, who is characterized as the one responsible for a wellness program tailored for the faculty and staff at Sacred Heart Hospital. In contrast, Booster will take on the role of Dr. Eric Park, an attending physician at the same hospital.
Returning to their original roles are Robert Maschio (“Cougar Town,” “Men at Work”) as Todd and Phill Lewis (“Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” “The Suite Life on Deck”) as Hooch.
The series will also introduce a new group of interns including: Ava Bunn (“A Man on the Inside,” “Five Star Weekend”) as Serena, Jacob Dudman (“The Choral,” “The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die”) as Asher, David Gridley (“The Last Ship,” “The Rookie”) as Blake, Layla Mohammadi (“The Persian Version,” “Lioness”) as Amara, and Amanda Morrow (“Mirrorland,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2”) as Dashana.
These new additions will join returning favorites Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley.
Bayer is represented by Rise Management, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Booster’s representation includes Omnipop Talent Group, WME, and Felker Toczek Suddleson & Sechel PR. Lewis is signed with CAA and 3 Arts Entertainment. Ava Bunn is booked with Gersh and OPE Partners. Jacob Dudman is managed by The Artists Partnership, Canopy Media Partners, and Prosper PR. David Gridley is represented by Stewart Talent & 42. Mohammadi is with LBI Entertainment and Level Talent Group, while Morrow is represented by Authentic Talent & Literary Management, Gersh, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
The reboot’s official logline reads, “JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time—medicine has evolved, the interns have changed, but their bromance has endured through it all. Both new and returning characters will navigate the complexities of Sacred Heart with humor, heart, and unexpected twists along the way.”
Former “Scrubs” stars Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will take the reins as executive producers and showrunners for the series revival, with Bill Lawrence serving as executive producer via Doozer alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Braff, Faison, and Chalke will also hold executive producer roles in addition to their acting contributions. 20th Television is backing the project. Lawrence continues under his overall deal at Warner Bros. Television, which has made room for him to collaborate with former studio partners on “Scrubs.”
