On Friday, FBI Director Kash Patel made waves by announcing that the Bureau has officially cut all affiliations with the notorious Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a group often labeled as a left-wing smear operation.

In an emphatic tweet that resonated with his earlier April declarations, Patel clarified that the FBI would no longer engage with what he describes as a “controversial hate group.”

Patel is leading a significant overhaul within the FBI, aiming to cleanse the institution of politically motivated influences. The SPLC, long criticized for branding conservatives as “extremists” to stifle opposition, has now been shown the door.

Kash Patel expressed this sentiment on Twitter:

The Southern Poverty Law Center strayed from its civil rights mission and evolved into a partisan smear machine.

Their infamous “hate map” has often been weaponized to defame ordinary Americans and has been linked to incidents of violence. Such a troubling history disqualifies them from any cooperation with the FBI.

During our Anti-Christian Bias Panel in April, I emphasized that the FBI will not rely on politicized or agenda-driven information from outside entities — and especially not from the SPLC. Henceforth, all relationships with them have been formally terminated.

Rewinding to earlier this year, the SPLC included Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and PragerU on its infamous “hate map,” designating them as alleged “anti-government extremist groups.”

Turning Point USA, the driving force behind Charlie Kirk’s America First movement, was unjustly labeled with these derogatory accusations:

Turning Point USA’s primary strategy is instilling and amplifying fears that white Christian supremacy is under siege by various supposed threats, including immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and civil rights advocates.

TPUSA frequently alerts its audience that their families, beliefs, and way of life are under assault from these imagined foes.

It is crucial to mention that this is the same hate map that a perpetrator used to target the Family Research Council in a foiled mass shooting in 2012. (While the SPLC condemned the attack, they continued to keep FRC listed on their map).

The fallout was severe. Just weeks after their May 2025 designation, Charlie Kirk — a prominent conservative force and founder of TPUSA — was tragically assassinated in August by an unhinged far-left activist who cited the SPLC’s map as his inspiration.

Similarly, PragerU, a well-regarded conservative nonprofit dedicated to producing educational content from a traditional perspective, received the same problematic label.

Interestingly, this organization was initially established to combat acts committed by the Ku Klux Klan yet found itself smeared alongside groups like Moms for Liberty.

Despite the widespread recognition of the SPLC’s partisan leanings, numerous mainstream experts and commentators continue to treat their research as credible, highlighting a troubling disconnect in the understanding of informational sources.
