The inaugural Weekend Update of the 51st season of “Saturday Night Live” tackled a variety of pop culture issues, including Diddy’s recent sentencing, J.K. Rowling‘s constant barrage of tweets regarding trans individuals, and the AI-generated actress Tilly Norwood.
“It has come to light that prominent talent agencies in Hollywood are eager to represent Tilly Norwood, an entirely AI-created actress,” remarked co-anchor Colin Jost. “Her career supposedly kicked off following a meeting with an AI version of Harvey Weinstein at a hotel.”
Later on, the segment featured Dobby the House Elf from “Harry Potter,” portrayed by Bowen Yang, who donned striking makeup and an eye-catching outfit, to comment on J.K. Rowling’s recent Twitter spat with Emma Watson and the frequent anti-trans messages from Rowling’s social media account.
“Master Rowling has contributed a lot to Dobby and to the discourse on inclusion,” Yang, as Dobby, stated. “Can you recall when Dumbledore was revealed to be gay post-publication? Or when Hermione was portrayed as Black only in the Broadway adaptation? And Cho Chang was…hmm, was Cho Chang of Asian descent? Dobby can’t quite remember if Cho Chang was indeed Asian…”
The Weekend Update team also dissected the developments surrounding Diddy’s sentencing, with co-anchor Michael Che commenting, “Sean Combs was sentenced to four years behind bars on Friday. Honestly, it’s tough for me to witness someone I admire facing repercussions, but that’s the kind of behavior Diddy would endorse!”
“During his sentencing, Sean Combs requested leniency, admitting that his actions were appalling, shameful, and downright sickening,” Che added. “In fact, just thinking about it makes him feel more rigid than grandma’s old candy.”
