In a striking condemnation, Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears unleashed a scathing critique of Democratic Attorney General nominee Jay Jones, whose previously private text messages from 2022 have resurfaced to reveal an alarming preoccupation with violence against Republicans. Among the more shocking revelations, Jones articulated a gruesome fantasy involving “murdered little children lying lifeless in their mothers’ arms.”
Earle-Sears asserted that Jones’ comments are “absolutely disqualifying” for anyone aspiring to serve as the state’s chief law enforcement officer. She contended that such thoughts exemplify a troubling trend within the Democratic Party.
The controversy ignited when National Review published leaked private messages from Jones, a past delegate in the Virginia House. In one egregious exchange, he grotesquely fantasized about executing then-Republican House Speaker Todd Gilbert, likening him to infamous dictators such as Hitler and Pol Pot.

Jones did not stop there; his chilling wish extended to the fate of one of Gilbert’s children, whom he imagined dying in a school shooting as a means to compel Gilbert to rethink his stance on gun control.
“I wish one of his kids would get shot up at school and die. Then maybe he’d change his mind,” lamented Jones, adding disturbing imagery of the child “lying lifeless in their mother’s arms.” Earle-Sears did not hold back in her response, emphasizing that Jones’ messages illustrate an outlook utterly unsuitable for public service.
“This is horrifying to read and should disqualify anyone from holding an office meant to safeguard the citizens of Virginia,” she stated.

The vocal conservative tied Jones’ rhetoric to a broader pattern of Democratic hypocrisy, challenging, “Can you name a single Democrat leader who hasn’t compared the president to Hitler? Or claimed Republicans’ policies are an existential threat to democracy?”

Demanding accountability, Earle-Sears called upon Jones’ running mate, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger, to insist he withdraw from the race, labeling Spanberger’s weak condemnation as insufficient. Jones, challenging incumbent Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares, has publicly apologized, dubbing his comments a “grave mistake.”
Nevertheless, he has defiantly refused to exit the race, maintaining that his remarks were merely private frustrations stemming from a fraught legislative session and do not reflect his character or capability.
In an unequivocal statement on X, Earle-Sears proclaimed, “Jay Jones can never be Attorney General of Virginia.”

This is horrific to read, and it should disqualify someone aiming to protect the people of Virginia.
Jay Jones’ horrifying comments are a symptom of the entire Democratic Party, and his running mate, Abigail…
