Robin Stevens’ acclaimed series of children’s mystery novels, “Murder Most Unladylike,” is set to be adapted for television by StudioCanal.

The adaptation, co-created by Stevens and scripted for TV by Anna McCleery (known for “Free Rein” and “The Lady Grace Mysteries”), will return with a new six-part series directed by James Strong, whose previous works include “Broadchurch” and “Mr Bates vs. The Post Office.”

Blending elements reminiscent of “Enola Holmes” with the classic style of Agatha Christie, “Murder Most Unladylike” portrays a captivating murder mystery set in the 1930s, revolving around two spirited teenage detectives navigating life at their boarding school.

Based on the wildly successful book series published by Puffin in the UK and Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers in the US, this adaptation covers 12 primary books and a three-part spin-off series. The series has been translated into 21 languages and has sold over 3.1 million copies around the world.

“It’s always been my aspiration to see Hazel and Daisy’s adventures come to life on screen, and I couldn’t have asked for better partners in this endeavor. Strong Film & TV has an outstanding track record in crime narratives, and Studiocanal expertly manages treasured family franchises like Paddington and Miffy,” stated Stevens. “I’m thrilled to collaborate with them and talented writer Anna McCleery. There’s immense passion within this team, and I am confident we will produce a rendition of ‘Murder Most Unladylike’ that will enchant fans while introducing these stories to a vast new audience.”

James Strong’s company, Strong Film + Television, will serve as executive producer alongside Matt Tombs and Loretta Preece. Studiocanal invested in Strong Film + TV in 2023, and this series represents the first project under Stevens’ new film and television production enterprise, Unladylike Productions.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the exceptionally gifted Robin Stevens, Anna McCleery, and the team at Strong Film + Television to bring ‘Murder Most Unladylike’ to life,” shared M-K Kennedy, managing director of Studiocanal Television. “The books uniquely combine intricate Agatha Christie-style mysteries with themes of female empowerment and beautifully aspirational locations, all highlighting a rich portrayal of female friendship. Daisy and Hazel are characters deserving of a stature akin to Watson & Holmes and have captured the hearts of millions with their independence, curiosity, and delightful humor.”

Studiocanal Kids & Family will oversee the global merchandising and licensing for the series.
