During a recent rally at Madison Square Garden, far-right comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made offensive remarks about Puerto Rico, sparking outrage from Puerto Rican celebrities like Bad Bunny and Ricky Martin, as well as lawmakers from both parties. The Trump campaign quickly distanced itself from the comedian’s comments, stating that they did not reflect the views of the former president.

Senator JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, responded to questions about the incident by downplaying the importance of the offensive joke. He expressed frustration with people being easily offended, stating that he was “so over” the outrage culture in America.

Despite the backlash, Vance reiterated that he had not seen the joke and dismissed concerns about its impact on voters. He criticized the focus on the comedian’s remarks, suggesting that there were more pressing issues at hand.

Vance: I have heard about the joke… Maybe it’s a stupid, racist joke.. Maybe it is not. But we have to stop getting so offended at every little thing can a United States of America. I’m so over it pic.com/I93s68plT8

The incident has raised concerns about the impact on Puerto Rican voters in swing states. A nonpartisan Puerto Rican group has drafted a letter urging members to oppose Trump, while an archbishop in San Juan has demanded an apology from the former president.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has used the rally as evidence of Trump’s divisive tactics, releasing an ad featuring the comedian’s remarks. The ad is set to air in swing states leading up to the election.
