8:06 AM PT — Maxwell‘s lawyer David Markus informed TMZ, “We are, of course, extremely disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear Maxwell’s appeal. Nevertheless, this battle is not over. Significant legal and factual questions remain, and we will vigorously pursue all available options to ensure justice prevails.”
Ghislaine Maxwell has encountered a substantial legal setback as the U.S. Supreme Court has unanimously rejected her request on Monday to annul her conviction for conspiring to sexually exploit minors.
The Supreme Court acted swiftly on its first day back, extinguishing any hopes for Maxwell of a retrial following her 2021 conviction while the Trump administration remains under scrutiny for withholding the Epstein Files.
The justices did not provide any reasoning for their dismissal of the appeal.
Maxwell’s three convictions and her 20-year prison sentence will remain intact, but her attorney David Oscar Markus is not conceding defeat. He maintains there are “serious legal and factual issues” that still need to be addressed and is committed to pursuing every possible avenue for her justice.
In her appeal, Maxwell contended that her conviction should be overturned, claiming Epstein’s 2007 plea agreement included her and that prosecutors had exceeded the statute of limitations.
Nevertheless, Maxwell is currently serving her sentence in relative comfort, having recently been moved to a more lenient all-female minimum-security facility in Texas.
