Chicago Man Arrested on Weapons and Drug Charges While on Electronic Monitoring

Tracy Conley (Cook County Sheriff’s Office)

CHICAGO — Tracy Conley, a man on house arrest for a pending felony gun charge, found himself in further trouble after a compliance check by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office revealed a cache of weapons and drugs in his home. The visit was prompted by a ShotSpotter alert received by Chicago police at Conley’s address in the 900 block of West 131st Street.

Court records indicate that during the compliance check, officers discovered a loaded machine gun with an extended magazine and a second loaded handgun with an extended magazine hidden under the cushions of a sofa where Conley’s electronic monitoring bracelet charger was located. Additionally, a backpack in the vicinity contained $1,180 cash, a digital scale, 384 pills of suspected ecstasy, 707 grams of cannabis, and an aftermarket “sear switch” that can convert semi-automatic pistols into machine guns.

Conley now faces charges including two counts of Class X armed habitual criminal, two counts of unlawful use of a machine gun by a felon, possession of cannabis, possession of ecstasy, and violation of pretrial release by possessing a handgun.

Prosecutors revealed that Conley was awaiting trial for Class X armed habitual criminal charges while on electronic monitoring. They informed Judge Maryam Ahmad that Conley has prior convictions for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and robbery. In response, Ahmad granted the detention petition.
