INDIANAPOLIS — The site of Mark Sanchez’s stabbing has become an unexpected hotspot for tourists in Indianapolis, as curious onlookers are flocking to the scene. Reports suggest that visitors are capturing selfies along the same stretch of sidewalk where Sanchez stumbled after the attack, which occurred around midnight Saturday.

Individuals have been seen snapping photos where the ex-Jets quarterback limped following the stabbing incident.

On Monday, remnants of blood could still be found along the sidewalk and into the alley, giving a chilling reminder of the violent incident where Sanchez allegedly assaulted a grease truck driver.

“He probably had it coming,” remarked a woman walking by with her coworker on Tuesday. “He assaulted a 69-year-old man.”

Another intrigued local commented that the incident was one of the most noteworthy occurrences in Indianapolis in years, explaining why so many people were intrigued to see the site firsthand.

“Nothing happens here, really,” she remarked.

“It’s absolutely wild,” added another witness.

These were just a few of the numerous comments captured by The Post of people observing the aftermath near Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery, with quite a few trailing the blood path to snap photographs.

Chronology of the Mark Sanchez stabbing and subsequent arrest

Friday Evening

  • Mark Sanchez, aged 38, arrives in Indianapolis to work as a Fox Sports analyst for the Raiders-Colts game on Sunday. He was reported to be acting unusually, performing “wind sprints” in the alley behind Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery.

Shortly after Midnight

  • A grease truck driver arrives to collect used cooking oil from a nearby hotel and parks in the loading area, unknowingly obstructing Sanchez’s sprinting path.
  • Sanchez confronts the driver to request the truck be moved, leading to an altercation where he body-slams the driver against the wall and subsequently to the ground.
  • The driver retaliated with mace or pepper spray, yet Sanchez kept advancing.
  • In defense, the driver produced a knife, stabbing Sanchez two or three times in the chest, fearing for his safety.
  • Sanchez retreats up the alley.

12:30 a.m.

  • Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department respond to a call about a shooting. They find Sanchez inside Loughmiller’s Pub.
  • Reports indicate that Sanchez was uncooperative with the police, claiming he could only recall “grabbing for a window” without details about the confrontation.
  • He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
  • The driver also sustained severe injuries, suffering deep cuts to his cheek and jaw, including one that went through his cheek and struck his tongue.

Saturday

  • Sanchez undergoes surgery for stab wounds to the chest and his condition stabilizes.
  • He is detained at the hospital and charged with misdemeanor offenses including battery, public intoxication, and unlawful entry into a vehicle.

Sunday

  • On Sunday morning, Sanchez is discharged and taken to central booking at Marion County Jail, where he reportedly pays his $300 cash bond.

Monday

  • Charges against Sanchez are elevated from misdemeanors to a Level 5 felony for battery resulting in serious injury.

During the confrontation, Sanchez was allegedly intoxicated and engaged in wind sprints in the alleyway near Loughmiller’s while encountering Perry Tole, who was there to collect cooking oil from local hotels.

In a heated exchange, Sanchez supposedly grew agitated by the truck’s presence and climbed inside when Tole claimed he hadn’t heard him due to his hearing aids being out, according to police records.

Following the body-slam, Tole produced a knife in self-defense, leading Sanchez to receive a severe cut from Tole’s own blade.

“I can’t believe people behave this way,” a worker from a nearby Westin Hotel remarked, standing near the blood. “It’s shocking that we can’t simply show respect and let someone perform their job.”

“The waste management guy was just trying to finish his work and go home,” they continued.

Sanchez now faces felony battery charges stemming from the altercation, citing minimal recollection of the event in an arrest affidavit.
