Over the years, Davis has altered his account regarding his role in the murder of Shakur.
In a 2019 appearance on BET’s series Death Row Chronicles, he admitted to being inside the vehicle during the incident but chose not to disclose the identity of the shooter.
“Going to keep it for the code of the streets. Just came from the backseat, bro,” he stated.
The attack was reportedly a response to an earlier altercation where Shakur and his entourage assaulted Davis’ nephew at the Las Vegas MGM Grand.
Davis, identified as the former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, was said to have been the “shot caller” orchestrating the attack.
In his 2019 autobiography Compton Street Legend, Davis detailed that he was in the front passenger seat when he “tossed the Glock into the backseat.”
He recalled, “Tupac made an erratic move and began to reach down beneath his seat. It was the first and only time in my life that I could relate to the police command, ‘Keep your hands where I can see them.’ Instead, Pac pulled out a strap, and that’s when the fireworks started. One of my guys from the back seat grabbed the Glock and started bustin’ back.”
In a 2024 jailhouse interview with ABC News, Davis asserted his innocence, describing himself as a “good man.”
