The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards never fail to bring a smile to our faces, and this year’s finalists are no exception. With nearly 9,000 submissions from photographers all over the globe, the competition showcases the lighter side of the animal kingdom, highlighting the playful and humorous moments captured in the wild.

Founded in 2015 by photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullamto, the awards aim to blend wildlife photography with humor to raise awareness about conservation efforts worldwide. The finalists represent a diverse array of creatures, from bear cubs to geckos, each with their own unique charm and personality.

You can view the full gallery of finalists on the competition’s website and even participate in selecting the People’s Choice Award winner until October 31. The winners will be announced on December 10 and their work will be on display at Gallery@Oxo in London from December 10 to 16.

Among the standout entries are Alex Fine’s “Holding on for a ride,” which captures a hilarious moment between two animals, Michela Bordoli’s “Gecko fashion model,” showcasing a stylish reptile, and Przemyslaw Jakubczyk’s “Unexpected role swap,” which features an unexpected encounter between two unlikely subjects. Other notable entries include Milko Marchetti’s “Stuck Squirrel,” Kath Aggiss’s “Song of the Zeisel,” Ingo Hamann’s “Laughing out loud,” Eberhard Ehmke’s “Frog in a balloon,” and Damyan Petkov’s “Whiskered tern crash-on landing.”
