Amidst the clamor of political promises and immigration debates, President Trump’s commitment to tackle illegal immigration seems to be yielding tangible results.

A recent study from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reveals that the foreign-born population in the United States has decreased by 2.2 million during Trump’s second term—marking a reversal from decades of increasing immigration.

This notable shift can be largely attributed to stringent border security measures implemented during Trump’s administration, especially in stark contrast to the Biden administration’s reported influx of approximately 10 million undocumented immigrants over its tenure.

The report highlights:

According to the monthly Current Population Survey (CPS) data from January to July this year, CIS earlier noted a decline of 2.2 million in the foreign-born population (both legal and illegal), with illegal immigrants constituting nearly three-quarters of that reduction.

The immigration figures from August suggest a stabilization of this trend, maintaining the 2.2 million drop since July.

As previously indicated, the ongoing tightening of immigration enforcement may have caused a hesitation among immigrants to engage with the survey, possibly affecting their self-identification as foreign-born.

Nevertheless, a comprehensive analysis of multiple months’ data, combined with reliable CPS response rates, a steady willingness among respondents to respond to immigration inquiries, slackening job growth, and anecdotal evidence collectively affirm the legitimacy of the noted decline in the foreign-born population.

The Current Population Survey consistently indicates a decline in the foreign-born cohort.

This decline might seem like a statistical anomaly if it were only reflected over a single month. However, multiple months demonstrate this significant drop.https://t.co/JUFgpmXJhA

Officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported last month that roughly 1.6 million undocumented immigrants have left voluntarily, while Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted over 400,000 formal deportations.

This week, the agency confirmed a historic low in illegal border crossings, with the current fiscal year recording fewer than 238,000 apprehensions—the lowest in 55 years.

Trump managed to secure our borders in just 48 hours.

We are witnessing the lowest rates of illegal border crossings in over 50 years, following four years marked by unparalleled levels of unauthorized immigration.

It’s essential to underline that the border crisis doesn’t stem from the inadequacies of the Biden Administration; rather, it’s arguably a consequence of deliberate policy choices.pic.twitter.com/i7m27w1Uge

Furthermore, a recent poll conducted by The New York Times indicates that a significant majority of Americans back the administration’s deportation initiatives, with support cutting across party lines—nearly 20 percent of Democrats are among those approving these measures.

In contrast, only 24 percent of Americans expressed strong opposition to these deportation efforts.
