Samsung fans eagerly awaiting the release of the Galaxy S26 range may be in for a disappointment, as a recent report suggests that a highly anticipated upgrade may not be happening after all.

There had been strong indications leading up to Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event on 25 February that the new Galaxy S26 phones would feature magnetic charging compatibility, including the introduction of a new official Qi2 charger. However, renowned tipster Ice Universe has now debunked these rumors.

Ice Universe, known for their accurate leaks, has stated with certainty that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will not include the necessary magnets for full Qi2 wireless charging capabilities. This revelation implies that Qi2 technology, similar to Apple’s MagSafe, will not be present in the entire Galaxy S26 range.

Recent leaks of official cases for the Galaxy S26 family, which featured circular elements typically associated with Qi2 magnets, now take on a different meaning. It is speculated that these elements may simply be in place to ensure compatibility with magnetic cases rather than built-in charging technology.

The initial plans for the Galaxy S26 range included a Pro model to replace the Galaxy S26 and a Galaxy S26 Edge to replace the S26+, with Qi2 charging being a key feature. However, unforeseen circumstances such as a lukewarm reception for the Galaxy S25 Edge and rising component prices may have led to a change in Samsung’s strategy.

Interestingly, Google’s Pixel 10 series has embraced Qi2 charging under the Pixelsnap branding, showcasing proper magnetic wireless charging capabilities. This puts Samsung at a disadvantage in terms of wireless charging technology.

As we eagerly anticipate the Galaxy Unpacked event on 25 February, it remains to be seen what new features the Galaxy S26 range will offer in lieu of the anticipated Qi2 upgrade. Samsung enthusiasts will have to wait for the official unveiling to see what innovations the tech giant has in store.
