Amazon Prime Video, in collaboration with the esteemed Dungeons & Dragons ensemble Critical Role, has unveiled the first trailer for their animated series titled “The Mighty Nein.” This series is inspired by the second campaign of Critical Role’s Dungeons & Dragons adventures and marks the second animated endeavor following the successful “Legend of Vox Machina.” The inaugural season is set to debut on Prime Video on November 19.
Echoing their previous Dungeons & Dragons campaign that spanned from 2018 to 2021, the talented cast members of Critical Role, including Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, Taliesin Jaffe, Laura Johnson, Marisha Ray, and Matthew Mercer, portray a new set of characters distinct from their “Vox Machina” roles. The narrative of “The Mighty Nein” unfolds 20 years later within the same Exandria universe, this time focusing on the continent of Wildemount.
In this new series, Bailey voices the tiefling cleric Jester Lavorre, Willingham takes on the role of the half-orc warlock Fjord Stone, Riegel portrays the goblin rogue Nott the Brave, Ray acts as the human monk Beauregard Lionett, Jaffe embodies the tiefling blood hunter Mollymauk “Molly” Tealeaf, Johnson is the aasimar barbarian Yasha Nydoorin, and Mercer voices the drow wizard Essek Thelyss. Season 1 will also feature guest appearances from Anjelica Huston, Lucy Liu, Nathan Fillion, T’Nia Miller, Felicia Day, Graham McTavish, Ivanna Sakhno, Mark Strong, Alan Cumming, Tim McGraw, Anika Noni Rose, Ming-Na Wen, Auli’i Cravalho, Rahul Kohli, Robbie Daymond, and Jonathan Frakes.
Earlier this summer, the series was teased at San Diego Comic Con, with additional insights shared during New York Comic Con. The narrative follows a band of outcasts and fugitives, united by hidden pasts and wounds. When a potent arcane artifact known as ‘The Beacon’ ends up in perilous hands, they must band together to protect their realm and prevent the very fabric of reality from tearing apart.
As for Season 4 of “The Legend of Vox Machina,” which is the penultimate season, the Critical Role cast announced that Wayne Brady will join the cast as Taryon Darrington. Also, look out for guest appearances by Kevin Michael Richardson, Debra Wilson, and Tom Cardy.
