Fremantle has secured global distribution rights for the feature documentary titled “Luca: Seeing Red”, which explores the life of the business mogul and former chairman of Ferrari, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.
Set to debut at Mipcom in Cannes, the documentary features Chris Harris, known from “Top Gear”, journeying to Italy to “meet his hero”, blending seldom-seen archives with personal interviews to narrate the life of a figure who has significantly influenced modern motorsport and Italian commerce.
Directed, produced, and penned by Manish Pandey, the writer of “Senna”, with Christopher M. Armstrong as co-director, the film delves into Montezemolo’s remarkable career from his tenure under Enzo Ferrari to orchestrating the brand’s illustrious periods alongside Niki Lauda and Michael Schumacher.
Luca di Montezemolo shared, “My life has been lived at full throttle, and this film encapsulates that essence against Italy’s breathtaking scenery,” describing the documentary as “a narrative of passion, persistence, and the quest for excellence, which are core values of Ferrari and hopefully act as an inspiration for many.”
He elaborated, “From the triumphant moments of world championships to the challenges I faced, ‘Seeing Red’ portrays not just my story, but also the extraordinary individuals and pivotal events that shaped it.”
Mark Reynolds, Fremantle’s Global Head of Documentaries and Factual, stated that “Luca: Seeing Red” presents a narrative centered on “innovation, leadership, and legacy—core themes that resonate universally.”
He added, “Luca’s inspiring path transcends racing—it extends from the heart of Ferrari to the broader cultural phenomena that defined contemporary motorsports. This character-focused film, characterized by artistry, authenticity, and international appeal, reflects Fremantle’s dedication to premium storytelling.”
Co-produced by Jiva Maya and Religion of Sports, “Luca: Seeing Red” also highlights Montezemolo’s diverse accomplishments, encompassing his coordination of the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the establishment of Italy’s high-speed rail system.
Manish Pandey, Jiva Maya’s producer and creative director, emphasized that the documentary is set to be a “visually captivating and profoundly emotional odyssey through one of history’s most iconic brands.”
Fremantle’s expansive documentary lineup further includes offerings such as “The Zelensky Story,” “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley,” “Once Upon a Time in Space,” and “The Beatle and The Bass,” which investigates the tale behind Paul McCartney’s stolen bass guitar.
