Florida State’s Ethan Pritchard Released from Hospital After Six-Week Recovery from Mistaken Identity Shooting
Ethan Pritchard, a football player from Florida State University (FSU), has been discharged after a harrowing six-week hospitalization following a shooting incident described by authorities as a tragic case of mistaken identity.
He was transferred from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville, where he will continue to work on his recovery. A statement from the university reported that Pritchard is now “alert, responsive, and able to communicate,” a significant step forward after sustaining life-threatening injuries in late August.
The shooting occurred on August 31, 2025, shortly after FSU’s season opener against Alabama. Pritchard, driving with his aunt and a minor, became an innocent victim when gunmen opened fire. Subsequent investigations confirmed that the attack was unrelated to Pritchard or his family, highlighting a startling and unfortunate instance of misidentification.
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of four individuals in connection with the shooting. These suspects, aged between 16 and 23, are facing attempted murder charges, with one also apprehended for breaching probation.
Upon his discharge, Pritchard received a heartfelt welcome filled with applause and cheers from teammates, family, medical staff, and supporters. His father, Earl Pritchard, expressed deep appreciation for the strength found in the community, stating:
“Words cannot adequately express our gratitude for the prayers, love, and medical care Ethan has received. It feels like a miracle unfolding before our eyes.”
FSU head coach Mike Norvell has remained a steadfast presence for the Pritchard family, supporting them throughout this challenging journey by visiting Ethan in the hospital and leading team efforts to express solidarity.
The story of Ethan Pritchard has resonated deeply with the Florida State community, which continues to rally behind him as he progresses in rehabilitation. Although the legal proceedings against the suspects advance, physicians indicate that Pritchard’s road to full recovery will be lengthy; however, his remarkable progress inspires hope in those keeping track of his journey.
