Rumors are swirling that Howard Stern may not be retaining his contract with Sirius, as his audience continues to decline. Analysts point to his perceived shift towards a more progressive stance, alongside a significant drop in engagement during the Covid-19 lockdowns, as possible causes for this downturn.

Moreover, his recent attempts to dismiss the meaning of “woke” strike many as nothing short of ironic given his previous embrace of similar sentiments.

FOX News reports:

Howard Stern Pushes Back Against ‘Woke’ Accusations, Defends His Career Choices

Radio icon Howard Stern recently pushed back against assertions that he has adopted a “woke” mentality, coinciding with speculation regarding his retirement. He insists that both claims are unfounded.

Once the vanguard of shock-jock radio—challenging the FCC and pushing boundaries—Stern’s humor has drawn criticism in recent years for its departure from the edgy, irreverent style that initially garnered him fame. Accusations related to his changing comedic approach have continued alongside persistent retirement rumors.

“I was vacationing when suddenly I found myself in what felt like ‘Stephen Colbert land,’ forced to navigate uncharted waters with the FCC. Am I ‘too woke’? I must admit, I’m unsure what ‘woke’ really entails,” Stern remarked.

He further added, “If being ‘woke’ is indicative of being aware, then so be it, but that’s a term I still grapple to understand.”

Noteworthy, fellow radio host Andy Cohen offered insight, suggesting that this accusation might simply reflect a growing concern for one’s fellow human beings.

However, what’s particularly fascinating is how Stern has paradoxically identified himself with “wokeness” in the past.

“I am woke, and I embrace it wholeheartedly,” claimed Stern in an outspoken moment.

The question really looms: how did someone with such a controversial past find a foothold in radio to begin with? Many are left pondering the intricacies of his career trajectory.

At this juncture, it may be time for Stern to consider retirement. After all, how much more wealth does one individual need when a legacy hangs in the balance?
