The universe of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” is set to grow with the introduction of a new action video game and an animated series on YouTube, as revealed during New York Comic Con on Sunday.
The iconic Nickelodeon series marked its 20th anniversary at the event, where a panel featuring original cast members Zach Tyler Eisen (Aang), Jack De Sena (Sokka), Michaela Jill Murphy (Toph), Dante Basco (Zuko), Mae Whitman (Katara), co-creator Bryan Konietzko, and moderator Janet Varney (Korra) took place.
An upcoming one-on-one fighting game, tentatively named “Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game,” was announced. The character roster includes Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Azula, Toph, and Korra, all illustrated in charming 2D animation. Players can expect Aang harnessing airbending and entering the Avatar State for formidable moves, Zuko utilizing his firebending along with his Blue Spirit mask and dual swords, and Korra adeptly employing all four elements, including her Avatar State. The game is slated for console release in the summer of 2026.
Also introduced was a delightful chibi-style, 2D animated series featuring short videos that will be accessible on YouTube. These shorts will creatively reinterpret memorable scenes from the original “Avatar” series, the comics, and present fresh stories. One of the clips humorously parodies the series premiere, showcasing Katara and Sokka’s encounter with Aang and their clash with Zuko and the Fire Nation.
Looking ahead in the “Avatar” universe, there is a sequel series called “Avatar: Seven Havens,” which continues the adventures of the Avatar following Korra. Additionally, a feature film titled “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender” is scheduled for theatrical release on October 9, 2026.
