Sydney Sweeney is leveraging her celebrity status to assist victims of the wildfires in Spokane, Washington, as mass evacuations continue.

“Spokane has always been home to me. It’s where I grew up, where my family still lives, and where so many of the people and places that shaped me are,” Sweeney, 28, shared on her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, August 4. At that time, more than a dozen fires had burned roughly 10,000 acres in Spokane County, forcing nearly 65,000 residents to evacuate.

“The destructive fires have changed countless lives in ways that are difficult to express,” Sweeney continued. “Thousands of families have lost their homes, their possessions, and their businesses, including members of my own family. Our community has never faced devastation on this scale before.”

CNN reported on Tuesday that this year’s wildfire season in Oregon and Washington is the most severe in over 30 years, with more than 2.6 million acres burned so far.

“Unlike larger cities that often receive extensive national attention and resources, Spokane doesn’t have the same spotlight,” Sweeney noted. “If you’re looking for ways to help, here are four organizations I’m supporting that are actively assisting this community in need.”

The Housemaid star provided information for the Innovia Foundation, SpokAnimal, Second Harvest, and Watch Duty.

“I’ve organized this fundraiser to support these organizations doing vital work on the ground,” she added. “Every donation, no matter the size, will aid those affected as they embark on the long journey to recovery. Thank you for standing with my hometown during one of its most challenging times. Love, Syd.”

Sydney Sweeney is expanding her career to include fashion design. The Emmy-nominated actress, 27, is reportedly “launching a lingerie line very soon,” according to a source for Us Weekly. This venture has been a significant project for her, one she has been developing over the past year, with financial backing from a new billionaire acquaintance.

She also shared a post from Baby2Baby, an organization that supplies essential items to children in need.

Sweeney often speaks fondly of her hometown during interviews. In a Harper’s Bazaar Australia cover story from August 2023, she discussed how her mother’s family was born and raised there, and she remains close with her cousins. She even repurchased a family home in Spokane that her great-grandparents had sold, located near her grandmother and cousins. “Restoring those memories within our family was incredibly meaningful,” she told the publication.
