Steve Martin has expressed his condolences following the passing of Father of the Bride co-star Diane Keaton.
In a heartfelt message posted on X on Saturday, October 11, Martin, 80, shared a nostalgic black and white image of a young Keaton, who sadly passed away at the age of 79 earlier that day, writing, âLoved!â
He also quoted Keatonâs memorable line from her iconic 1977 film Annie Hall: âLa dee da, la dee da.â
Keaton’s family announced her death in California, speaking with People on Saturday. At this time, they have requested privacy and no further details regarding her death have been disclosed.
Us Weekly reached out to representatives for Keaton for a statement.
Keaton and Martin are well-known for their roles as George and Nina Banks, the parents of Annie Banks (played by Kimberly Williams-Paisley), in 1991’s Father of the Bride and its 1995 sequel, Father of the Bride Part II. The cast, which also featured Martin Short, Kieran Culkin, and George Newbern, got together again in 2020 for a special event titled Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish), streamed on Netflix’s YouTube and Facebook.
Williams-Paisley, 54, also reacted to the news of Keaton’s passing on Instagram, sharing her feelings in the comments section of People‘s post.
âThis breaks my heart. Working with Diane Keaton will always be one of the greatest experiences of my life,â she commented, including a red heart emoji.

The original Father of the Bride showcased Annie’s journey to marry her fiancĂ© Bryan MacKenzie while George coped with the fact that his daughter was growing up. The sequel saw Annie reveal her pregnancy to the family while Nina also shared her news.
This reunion event, raising funds for World Central Kitchen, which provides meals for children and families affected by crises, recounted recent updates about the Banks family. George and Ninaâs son, Matty (Culkin), married via Zoom after establishing himself as a comedy writer, while George settled into retirement.
In 2022, Keaton exclusively told Us whether she would be interested in reprising her role.
âSo far, no oneâs approached me about it. But if it were to happen, absolutely,â she mentioned. âSteven, Marty, they have their show [Only Murders in the Building] now. They are enormous talents, exceptional actors who are not only funny but smart. Itâs impressive how theyâre excelling on television.â
Moreover, Keaton revealed she has not seen the 2022 HBO Max Father of the Bride remake featuring Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan.
âI havenât had a chance to watch the remake of Father of the Bride,â she stated in an interview with Us.
As for her aspirations for future roles, Keaton expressed, âIâm open to whatever opportunities come my way. Iâve been fortunate so far; hence, I donât want to dismiss anything without knowing if it’s the right fit for me. It wouldnât be wise of me to rule out options unless I genuinely feel unqualified for a role.â
