With their tousled ends and unkempt fringes, the models looked as if they had just woken up. During the Fall 2025 shows, they strutted down the catwalks showcasing a variety of messy hairstyles: There were disheveled locks at Miu Miu, hurried ponytails at Prada, shaggy hair at Kenzo, tousled waves at Stella McCartney, crimped roots at Alexander McQueen, and voluminous flyaways at Chloé—just to highlight a few.
“It’s the irreverence that gives these disordered hairstyles their contemporary edge,” noted Guido Palau, the stylist responsible for the deliberately “messy” looks at Prada, Miu Miu, and Dolce & Gabbana. “The impression that you haven’t spent hours on your hair lends it a relaxed vibe that’s always appealing.”

That said, the appearance of nonchalance shouldn’t mislead you. The trendiest messy hairstyles might give off an aura of carelessness, but they are far from lazy. Instead, they convey the essence of a woman who leads a dynamic life, too thrilling to spend excessive time in front of a mirror. She’s the one who, after dancing till dawn, rushes straight to the office without a second thought—an imaginative free spirit who doesn’t conform to traditional beauty standards. In short, her chaotic hair is a reflection of her unique je ne sais quoi.
The aesthetic is characterized as “wildly disheveled yet undeniably beautiful and feminine,” articulates Palau, emphasizing that messy hair prompts us to reconsider the very notion of beauty, especially when it deviates from our conventional standards of perfection. “Who can truly define beauty? Messy hair always ignites discussion,” he reflects.
