President Trump has extended an invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit Washington this week, following the recent conclusion of hostilities in Gaza, according to reports from The Post.

Olha Stefanishyna, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the US, confirmed that Zelensky received an “official invitation for the president of Ukraine to visit the USA for discussions,” as disclosed by the embassy to The Post on Monday.

The embassy did not provide details on the specific date of the meeting or the timing of the invitation, although various media sources have indicated that it is set to occur on Friday.

His invitation follows a series of back-to-back calls between Zelensky and Trump on Saturday and Sunday, as disclosed by Zelensky in a social media update on Monday.

“We agreed on various discussion topics yesterday, covering all aspects: life’s defense in our nation, enhancing our capabilities—air defense, resilience, and long-range prowess,” Zelensky shared regarding their talks. “We also delved into numerous details concerning the energy sector.”

In a recent Fox News interview, Zelensky urged the United States to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles capable of striking deep into Russian territory.

Additionally, during The Sunday Briefing, Ukraine’s president remarked that the peace deal between Israel and Hamas has instilled “hope” for his country—Trump had previously noted that the conflict in Ukraine is more complex than that in Gaza.

“To exert genuine pressure on Putin,” Zelensky stated, addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin, “we require two vital elements: real air defense and long-range strike capabilities.”

Ukraine has been actively targeting Russia’s energy sector, which analysts indicate is a primary funding source for the Kremlin’s operations against Kyiv. These attacks have intensified pressure on Russia’s economic foundations.

Trump has significantly impacted efforts to halt the Kremlin’s financial resources, encouraging European nations to cease importing Russian oil.

The Kremlin has escalated its assaults on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and Kyiv has shown interest in acquiring energy supplies from the US in anticipation of a challenging winter, as reported to The Post.

This upcoming meeting will mark the first in-person encounter between Trump and Zelensky since their transaction at the last United Nations General Assembly. Following that meeting, Trump expressed newfound insights regarding the Ukraine crisis, labeling Putin a “paper tiger.”

“President Trump is well-informed about ongoing developments,” Zelensky remarked. “We have agreed to persist in our dialogue, and our teams are currently preparing. Thank you!”

The last meeting between Zelensky and Trump at the White House took place on August 18, 2025.
