Diane Keaton was not only a mother in real life to two children but also portrayed numerous onscreen children in her remarkable acting career.
On Saturday, October 11, it was reported that Keaton passed away at the age of 79 in California. She leaves behind her adopted daughter Dexter and son Duke, whom she welcomed into her family in 1996 and 2001, respectively.
A family spokesperson informed People that further details regarding her passing would remain private as they navigate this difficult time. Us Weekly has sought additional comments.
Following the news of her passing, several of Keaton’s co-stars expressed their condolences and shared tributes to the beloved actress. Among them was Mandy Moore, who portrayed Milly Wilder, one of Keaton’s daughters in the film Because I Said So (2007).
In her tribute on Instagram, Moore reflected, “They say don’t meet your heroes, but I had the honor to work with one of mine and even called her ‘mom’ for a bit. Truly a lifetime honor.” She praised Keaton as “an incandescent human being, both then and now.”

Expressing her grief on Instagram, Moore noted, “I’m so saddened by her passing, not only for the obvious reasons but also because it seemed like she would always be here, enchanting us with her immense talent and charm (and let’s not forget her style). Truly one of the greatest.”
Kimberly Williams-Paisley
Kimberly Williams-Paisley, known for her role as Annie Banks, the daughter of Nina Banks (Keaton) in Father of the Bride, also shared her tribute to Keaton.
On Instagram, she expressed, “This news breaks my heart. Working with Diane Keaton will forever remain one of the highlights of my life.”
Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts, who played Michelle, the daughter of Keaton’s character Grace in Maybe I Do (2023), shared a touching black-and-white image of Keaton on her Instagram Story. “The absolute greatest,” Roberts wrote. “So fortunate to have worked with her. Love you, Diane.”
Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde reflected on her experience with Keaton when they starred together as mother and daughter in Love The Coopers (2015), where Keaton played Charlotte Cooper and Wilde took on the role of Eleanor Cooper.
“I had the incredible opportunity to be Diane Keaton’s daughter in a film called Love The Coopers, surrounded by a wonderfully loving cast,” Wilde recounted on Instagram. “I was in awe of calling her ‘Mom’ and snapped pictures of the family’s bookshelves, wanting to capture that surreal experience. In every sense, we created a family, filled with laughter and songs during our time in Pittsburgh.”
She went on to say, “Diane was the heart of our on-screen family. She kept us laughing even during long shoots, sharing wisdom about love and life. Her advice inspired me to keep my heart open, pursue directing, be brave, and maintain a sense of humor. I’ll forever cherish her presence and the joy she brought to our lives.”
Sarah Jessica Parker
Parker had collaborated with Keaton in the film First Wives Club (1996) and reunited nearly a decade later in The Family Stone (2005), where Keaton depicted matriarch Sybil Stone.
“Diane Keaton has inspired countless actresses,” Parker shared on Instagram. “I count myself as one of those lucky enough to admire her. It was a privilege to observe her unique talent on both First Wives Club and The Family Stone.
