A man known for following an elderly resident into her Lakeview retirement facility and attempting sexual assault has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Patrick Somerville, 43, entered a guilty plea for residential burglary in front of Judge Timothy Joyce. The prosecution agreed to dismiss eight other felony charges, including home invasion and multiple sexual offenses.

This case originated from an event on October 15, 2024, on the 1500 block of West Belmont Avenue. Law enforcement stated that an 82-year-old woman, diagnosed with dementia, went out for a cigarette and was followed inside the building by Somerville as she returned to her apartment through a secure door.

Once inside, he followed her to her room and sat on her couch. Upon realizing he was there, the victim ordered him to leave. Reports indicate that Somerville made inappropriate advances, including kissing her shoulder and attempting to touch her inappropriately over her clothing.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured Somerville entering the woman’s residence, with audio recordings showing her pleading for him to “leave, leave.”

When apprehended by authorities, Somerville allegedly admitted to being in the building and mentioned to investigators that he and the elderly woman “had a little fun together,” as per the prosecutors’ claims.

Somerville must complete at least half of his four-year sentence and will receive credit for time already served. He is projected to be released on parole by October 15, 2026.
