Reports have surfaced about Gustavo Gordillo, the co-chair of the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, who recently appeared on FOX News and demonstrated a lack of understanding of the US government’s workings.

It has now come to light that Gordillo, who is outspoken against wealth and a supporter of Bernie Sanders, resides in a $1.5 million home purchased by his affluent parents.

This raises the question: Why do many of these radical activists come from privileged backgrounds?

The New York Post reports:

Anti-rich DSA leader Gustavo Gordillo lives it up in posh $1.5M NYC pad paid for by millionaire parents

The wealthy parents of a vocal DSA leader have established their socialist son in a luxurious $1.5 million Brooklyn residence, where he resides while criticizing the affluent and property ownership, according to The Post.

Gustavo Gordillo, at 38 years old, holds the position of co-chair for the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. He promotes his anti-capitalist agenda while living comfortably in a two-story, nearly 2,000-square-foot row home located on a gentrifying street in Bed-Stuy.

Local renter Faith Smith, 36, who referred to the Yale University graduate as a hypocrite, stated, “I wish my family could afford to buy me a million-dollar home.” She added, “It’s a rich kid. That’s basically people who don’t have to deal with the struggles we have to deal with.”

The Ivy League graduate’s single-family home, converted into its current state, was purchased in 2019 by his parents through a corporation, Chucuito LLC, for just under $1 million, according to property records. It has since undergone significant renovations, including an updated front facade, new landscaping, interior revamps, and additional decks on the roof and near the front door, based on plans filed with the borough in 2023.

Will this property be affected by Mamdani’s proposed tax?

I wonder if @NYCDSA co-chair @unionGustavo‘s parents will pay the pied-a-terre tax on the rowhouse they bought him in Bed-Stuy (Gustavo *E.* Gordillo is the father of our local Gustavo *L.*). The home showed up on the list Mamdani’s office released.

Is this behavior indicative of a rebellion against their privileged backgrounds, or perhaps a form of guilt?

There seems to be no other explanation.
