Sophie Grégoire Trudeau has expressed a heartfelt perspective on love and moving on as her ex-husband Justin Trudeau’s romance with Katy Perry intensifies.
“Nothing we cherish is intended to last forever,” wrote Grégoire Trudeau, 50, in an Instagram video shared on Monday, October 13. “People, places, moments — they are meant to be experienced, not confined to our possession.”
The former Canadian television personality continued: “The essence lies in simply being present: in shared laughter, fleeting glances, and the essence of a place before it evolves. Connection isn’t a tangible thing we keep — it’s a feeling while it lasts. That is the true magic: being present.”
Encouraging her followers, Grégoire Trudeau said, “Allow yourself to appreciate what is around you, without the urge to cling. #MindfulLiving #Presence #sophiegregoiretrudeau.”
In her video, Grégoire Trudeau candidly admitted, “Holding on feels more secure than letting go. Yet love was never about ownership; it was always about being present. The current moment. By releasing what we cannot retain, we create space for authentic connection, intimacy, memories, and important lessons.”
She shared, “Grief has its place too. Since losing my father last year, I’ve found that grief can also bring a sense of grace.”
Grégoire Trudeau wrapped up her thoughts by reflecting, “Perhaps love’s profound lesson is this: to be open-hearted amid impermanence. To appreciate what has occurred and to believe that letting go can also mean preserving it within us in a manner that no loss can erase.”

Grégoire Trudeau’s statements come on the heels of her and the former Canadian Prime Minister, aged 53, divorcing in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The couple shares three children: Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.
Post-separation, Trudeau has been linked to Perry, 40. The two first sparked dating rumors in July when they were seen dining together in Montreal, Canada. Trudeau was later spotted at Perry’s Lifetimes Tour in the same location days afterward.
According to Us Weekly, the July dinner date was confirmed to be “definitely” a date, although described as “casual.” Insiders stated that Perry and Trudeau “had been communicating for a month and share several connections in the music scene.”
In September, it was reported that the “Roar” singer is still quietly seeing Trudeau. “They’ve opted for more privacy in their relationship,” said a source, adding they remain in touch and very interested in one another.
In recent weeks, Perry and Trudeau have also shown their affection publicly, being photographed sharing kisses and cuddles during a yacht trip in Santa Barbara, California.
Us Weekly reached out to representatives of both Perry and Trudeau for comment.
Prior to her connection with Trudeau, Perry was engaged to Orlando Bloom for six years. The pair share a daughter, Daisy, 5, and separated in June.
Perry had also been married to Russell Brand for 14 months before their split in late 2011. Bloom, in turn, shares a son named Flynn, aged 14, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, from whom he divorced in 2013.
