Hamas deploys 7,000 troops to ‘cleanse Gaza’ as Palestinians scramble to fill power vacuum: ‘Perfect recipe for civil war’

On Monday, Hamas announced the recall of 7,000 members of its security forces to “cleanse Gaza of outlaws and collaborators,” including those armed by Israel. This move has raised concerns about the potential for a bloody civil war within the already devastated region.

This declaration from the terror organization came as the Israeli Defense Forces began withdrawing their troops, fulfilling components of the historic peace agreement facilitated by President Trump, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

With the IDF’s departure and Hamas struggling against the backdrop of two years of conflict with Israel, analysts warn of an impending power struggle among Palestinian factions eager to seize control in the emerging vacuum.

“Gaza is awash with weaponry. During the conflict, looters have purloined thousands of arms and ammunition from Hamas stores, with some factions even receiving aid from Israel,” remarked a former Palestinian Authority security officer in a statement to the BBC.

“This situation is a critical instigator for civil unrest: an abundance of arms, widespread frustration, chaos, and a faction desperate to regain control over a beleaguered population.”

Hamas asserted via a statement that it was “enforcing order and restoring security and stability post-cease-fire.”

Yet, while Hamas is claiming to “restore order” in Gaza, the group released statements through its official media channels citing support from a group known as “The Gaza City Families Gathering,” praising their efforts to “maintain order and safeguard the lives and properties of citizens.”

“Gaza will rise again, empowered by its people’s will, and capable of revitalizing life in the face of all disruptions caused by the occupation,” asserted the group.

Phase two of the peace agreement involves disarming Hamas, but as of now, the organization has dismissed this concept, seeking more discussions before making any decisions.

Numerous Palestinians have opposed Hamas during the conflict in Gaza, according to senior Israeli officials speaking to The Post.

Tensions have also escalated between Hamas and the Dughmush clan, an Al Qaeda-aligned faction regarded as one of Gaza’s most formidable groups, which has long maintained a contentious relationship with Hamas, the BBC reported.

At least 27 individuals lost their lives amid fierce street clashes between Hamas militants and armed clan factions in Gaza City, near the Jordanian Hospital.
