Authorities report that four individuals were taken into custody in association with a shooting incident following a homecoming football game in Mississippi, which resulted in six fatalities and numerous injuries.
The suspects, Teviyon L. Powell, 29; William Bryant, 29; and Morgan Lattimore, 25, face charges of capital murder, while Latoya A. Powell, 44, is charged with attempted murder in relation to the shooting that occurred on Friday, as stated by a representative from the FBIâs Jackson Field Office on Monday.
Earlier this week, the FBI had requested the public’s assistance in identifying the locations of four individuals related to the incident.
Photos of one female and three males were made public on Sunday, identified as âunknown suspectsâ in an FBI communication.
Authorities mentioned that additional arrests may follow.
The shooting was reported around midnight on Main Street in Leland, with Mayor John Lee previously providing details to The Post.
The county coroner identified the four victims who died at the scene as Oreshama Johnson, 41; Calvin Plant, 19; Shelbyona Powell, 25; and Kaslyn Johnson, 18, according to WBLT.
In addition, Amos Brantley, 18, and JaMichael Jones, 34, succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, as reported by the outlet.
Ten more individuals received treatment at the hospital, though their identities remain undisclosed.
Among the victims were several recent graduates of Leland High School who had come back for a popular annual gathering during the school’s homecoming football event.
Witness Jennifer Buckner described the sudden onset of gunfire, recalling that while initial shots briefly interrupted the celebration, chaos erupted shortly after.
âAt first, there were a few quick shots, and then everything seemed to resume. But just minutes later, a barrage of automatic gunfire erupted. It lasted an eternity, and people just started fleeing,â Buckner recounted to The Post.
The FBI has indicated that the violence may have been triggered by a dispute among several individuals, but a clear motive for the incident has not yet been confirmed.
Separately, two individuals were killed in another shooting during a homecoming football game on the eastern side of the state in Heidelberg on the same night.
In Heidelberg, two victims, including a pregnant woman, were found deceased on the campus of Heidelberg High School following the game, according to police statements and Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves.
Authorities have not yet clarified the specific timing of the gunfire or whether it took place near the stadium.
An 18-year-old male was apprehended and charged with two counts of murder along with possession of a firearm on school property in association with the shooting in Heidelberg, according to records from the Jasper County Jail.
