A representative for the acclaimed musician (born Michael Eugene Archer) disclosed to Us Weekly that he was undergoing a private struggle with pancreatic cancer at the time of his passing.
âThe brightest star in our family has dimmed his light for us,â stated the family spokesperson to Us. âAfter a long and brave fight against cancer, we are heartbroken to share that Michael DâAngelo Archer, famed worldwide as DâAngelo, has returned home, departing this world on October 14, 2025.â
The official statement concluded with a reflection on his legacy: âWe are saddened that he can only leave cherished memories with us, but we are perpetually thankful for the incredible music he bequeaths. We kindly request that you respect our privacy during this challenging period and encourage everyone to join us in honoring his passing while celebrating the beautiful gift of music he has left the world.â
While DâAngelo was known for his discretion, he publicly acknowledged having three children, with Michael being from his four-year relationship with the late soul vocalist Angie Stone. Tragically, Stone lost her life at the age of 63 in a vehicle accident in March 2025, just months before DâAngeloâs own battle with cancer came to a close.

Angie Stone
Stoneâs relationship with DâAngelo in the â90s inspired his landmark 1995 soul album, Brown Sugar. Their personal and professional lives remained interconnected throughout the late â90s, highlighted by DâAngelo contributing to her 1999 debut album, Black Diamond.
Michael was born in 1997, though DâAngelo and Stone parted ways in 1999. Subsequently, Stone achieved significant success, collecting three Grammy nominations prior to her tragic death in March 2025.
âAngie Stoneâs artistry and spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those she influenced,â remarked her representative at the time.
In a touching tribute on Instagram, Michael, son of DâAngelo and Stone, expressed: âI know you are up there in your glory, and I hope youâve reunited with Grandma and Granddaddy. I want you to know how proud I am of you and how you inspired me every single day. You were never a burden to me.â
He continued, âIf I had the chance to do it all over again, I wouldnât change a thing. Iâm thankful for the lessons Iâve learned from you and I hope to be as good to my kids as you were to me. Iâll be okay from here on.â
Michael Archer
Born in 1997, Michael is DâAngelo and Stoneâs only biological child together. He has continued their musical heritage by performing under the alias Swayvo Twain.
In March 2025, Michael shared his desire to âbuild a name for myself separate from my parents.â
âIt often felt like I was destined to remain in their shadows,â he wrote on Instagram, âbut thankfully, I learned to embrace their legacy fully before my mommaâs passing.â
Michael later reflected on the painful reality of losing both parents within the same year, following DâAngeloâs passing in October 2025.
âI appreciate all your prayers and thoughts during this overwhelming time, as this year has been exceedingly sorrowful for me,â Michael shared in a statement to People. âI ask for your continued thoughts because the journey ahead wonât be simple, but my parents taught me to be resilient, and I plan to uphold that.â
Imani Archer
Imani, born in 1999, has kept her motherâs identity under wraps. Following in the footsteps of her family, she is also pursuing music.
âI was born in Los Angeles and spent a good portion of my childhood on the East Coast, settling in Kissimmee, Florida,â Imani stated in an interview with Bold Journey in November 2024. âMoving to L.A. at that age was a culture shock, but it felt right for my music career.â
Starting her musical journey at the age of 16, Imani recognized the lengthy process of âdiscovering my sound, mastering songwriting, and finding my voice.â
âItâs been a learning curve,â she remarked in 2024. âI feel like Iâm finally at a point where Iâm confident in my artistry and eager to share it with a broader audience!â
After DâAngeloâs death, Imani shared a nostalgic photo of him playing guitar alongside her, captioning her post with three heart emojis.
