A Florida woman, Daisy Link, who notoriously became pregnant while serving time in a Miami correctional facility, has been convicted of murdering the father of her two older children.

Link showed little emotion as a jury reached a verdict in under two hours, finding her guilty of second-degree murder for the shooting death of Pedro Jimenez outside her home in Homestead during June 2022, as reported by Local10.

At the time of his death, Link and Jimenez were together for nine years and shared two children.

The 30-year-old mother attracted international attention when she disclosed that she was expecting a child while awaiting her murder trial at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in December 2023.

Link alleged that she acquired semen from another inmate, Joan DePaz, by having it passed through a ventilation system.

According to Link, she never met DePaz, who also faced murder charges but was housed on a separate floor, and the two communicated exclusively through the vents.

The details of Link’s pregnancy and the birth of her youngest child, who is currently cared for by relatives, were not mentioned during her murder trial, local reports indicate.

Pedro Jimenez succumbed to injuries caused by a gunshot wound to the leg and bled out, with surveillance footage showing Link walking away from the scene while stating she had hit a “major artery.”

During her testimony, Link claimed her intention was merely to scare Jimenez away with the warning shot.

“He is the father of my children,” she remarked. “It’s not like I didn’t love him; I did.”

Prosecutor Alex Bergida characterized the Link-Jimenez relationship as “toxic,” noting incidents of mutual domestic violence.

The defense argued that Jimenez had a history of abusing Link and had attacked her shortly before his death while under the influence of alcohol, portraying him as a drug addict.

“He wasn’t a good guy. He was a drug-addicted, violent lunatic,” stated defense attorney Ayuban Thomas in court.

Thomas’s defense centered on the argument of self-defense, claiming Jimenez had threatened to invade Link’s home to take their children.

Link’s 11-year-old son testified remotely, stating he witnessed his father attacking Link and even using a gun to harm her.

“He (Jimenez) aimed the gun at my mom and pulled the trigger, but he missed,” the boy recounted, according to CBS News Miami.

“He was hitting her with the gun’s handle,” Link’s son said.

After the trial, one juror, Kenan Bowie, shared his thoughts on the guilty verdict.

“If he’s running away and she shot him in the back, that doesn’t align with self-defense,” he told reporters.

“She lied about many things, starting from her 911 call,” Bowie added.

“I focused on the facts of what transpired that day. The only conclusion we could reach was guilty,” he remarked.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle praised the prosecution’s efforts following the verdict.

“Daisy Link has been convicted of the second-degree murder of Pedro Jimenez. We appreciate the jury for their thorough review of all the evidence presented,” Fernandez Rundle remarked.

A pre-sentencing hearing is slated for November 21.
