On Friday, President Trump expressed his views on the state of the Democratic party, asserting that they are “mentally damaged” due to their policies that he claims prioritize âillegalsâ over American citizens.
During an interaction with Lindell TV correspondent Cara Castronuova, Trump was asked whether he believed Democrats would acknowledge his success in brokering peace between Russia and Ukraine. His response implied that recognition would be unlikely due to their asserted mental state.
âThe Democrats are really damaged, mentally damaged,â Trump stated. âThey want to allocate 1.5 trillionâyes, trillion dollarsâto support individuals who invaded our country.â

Castronuova: Do you think Democrats will give you credit when you finally end this war, like they did with the war in the Middle East?
Trump: I think right now, the Democrats are really damaged, mentally damaged. They want to take 1.5 trillion, with a T, trillion dollars and give it to people that invaded our country. They came into our country illegally, from prisons, from mental institutions, gang members. They want to give them healthcare and take it away from our citizens. We’re not going to do that. $1.5 trillion. They want to destroy, they want to destroy our healthcare system. Weâre not going to let that happen.
The federal government faced a shutdown at midnight on October 1, triggered by Democratic resistance to a budget bill that excluded $1.5 trillion in new spending earmarked for taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits for undocumented immigrants. A senior Democratic aide claimed that their party is prepared to keep the government shuttered indefinitely, asserting that they wonât relent until their demands are met.
Trump indicated he is ready to hold Democrats accountable for this impasse. When questioned about potential layoffs and which federal agencies might face budget cuts, he remarked, âIt will be Democrat-oriented because we figure, you know, they started this thing, so they should bear the brunt of its consequences.â
For over two weeks now, Senate Democrats have blocked several attempts to pass funding for the government, insisting on provisions for taxpayer-funded healthcare for undocumented immigrants, ongoing financial support for PBS, and an additional $1.5 trillion in spending. Ironically, they simultaneously seek to frame Republicans as responsible for the ongoing shutdown.
Trump made these comments during a pivotal meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to prior reports, this meeting coincides with discussions about the potential deployment of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine through NATO, aimed at enhancing their offensive strategies against Russia. Furthermore, Trump held a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, arranging a high-level meeting slated to occur before the month concludes.
