Sharon Stone Supports Sydney Sweeney at Variety’s Power of Women LA Event
Sharon Stone made a memorable appearance at Variety’s Power of Women LA event, where she was set to present honors to Sydney Sweeney, one of the evening’s honorees. The two actresses have been working together on “Euphoria” Season 3 for several months, despite Sweeney facing controversy for her involvement in an American Eagle ad campaign in July. The ads, which featured the slogan “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” received backlash from critics who claimed it glorified Sweeney’s white heritage and physique.
Stone showed her unwavering support for Sweeney on the event’s red carpet, stating, “It’s okay to use what mama gave you. It’s really fine. It’s hard to be hot, and I think we all know that. It’s really okay to use every bit of hotness you have and go for whatever that is. Everybody has their own certain kind of hotness, their own certain thing, and you’re supposed to go for that. Because who are you not to be beautiful? You know, who you are isn’t an accident.”
Stone shared a conversation she had with Sweeney during the “great jeans” controversy, emphasizing the importance of embracing one’s unique qualities and using them to succeed. She recalled a story about Jane Goodall and how she leveraged her appearance to further her research, inspiring Sweeney to embrace the situation and move forward confidently.
As a new addition to the cast of “Euphoria” Season 3, Stone expressed her excitement for being part of the acclaimed series and working with the talented young cast. Despite having to catch up by watching the show multiple times, Stone found joy in collaborating with the “amazing young people” on set.
Director Paul Feig, who worked with Sweeney on the upcoming thriller “The Housemaid,” also praised the actress for her confidence and savvy nature, dismissing the controversy surrounding the ad campaign as manufactured by the media.
Alongside Sweeney, Variety’s Power of Women L.A. event also honored Wanda Sykes, Jamie Lee Curtis, Nicole Scherzinger, and Kate Hudson, celebrating their contributions to the entertainment industry.
