The Indian contingent at the Hylo Open faced a tough day on Friday, October 31, with several defeats. However, amidst the disappointment, Unaati Hooda emerged as a shining star with a stellar performance in the women’s singles category.

The day started with Lakshya Sen’s match against Alex Lanier. Sen, who had shown good form in Saarbrücken, put up a strong fight but ultimately lost to the World No.16 in a closely contested match, with the final score reading 17-21, 21-14, 15-21. In other men’s singles matches, Kiran George fell to World No.5 Jonatan Christie, while Ayush Shetty suffered an unexpected defeat against Kalle Koljonen from Finland.

Amidst these losses, Unaati Hooda, the 18-year-old rising star, brought some cheer to Indian badminton fans with her impressive performance. She faced fourth seed Lin Hsiang Ti in the quarterfinals and emerged victorious in straight games, securing a spot in the semifinals where she is likely to face PK Wardani.

Rakshitha Sree Santhosh Ramraj was the last Indian in action on the day, but she couldn’t overcome Denmark’s Line Christopherson in a hard-fought battle.
