Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman criticized his own party for going against their core values by shutting down the government and expressed disappointment over the lapse in food stamp funding.

Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Fetterman voiced his concern about the 42 million Americans set to lose their SNAP benefits, emphasizing that this was a major reason why he opposed the government shutdown.

Senator Fetterman, known for his trademark hoodie, called on Democrats to take responsibility for the shutdown, stating, “I feel like the Democrats really need to own the shutdown. I mean, we’re shutting it down.”

Senator Fetterman, along with Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Angus King, were among the few Democrats who voted against blocking the stopgap measure to reopen the government.

Fetterman has been vocal in his criticism of the government shutdown, even suggesting that the GOP should consider the “nuclear option” to eliminate filibusters.
